To My (Former) Students;
I apologize for the lack of activity on this blog. I had some technical issues, then was away from my computer for awhile. Now that I’m back, I’m looking forward to reading about what you are reading!
So far this summer, I’ve read Summer at Tiffany’s, a true account of two girls who worked for Tiffany & Co. in New York the summer of 1945. I don’t think it would appeal to men, but I found it interesting for the setting ( NYC, Tiffany’s, 1945 — end of WWII) and for the point of view (young college student from the Midwest seeks adventure in the Big Apple.) It’s interesting and funny in parts. I also re-read a few Agatha Christie novels. You can’t beat a good Agatha Christie mystery on a stormy afternoon.
Now I am reading The Shack by William P. Young. A good friend recommended it, saying it was “life-changing” so I thought I should read it. When I went to pay for it at Books a Million, the young man behind the counter said the same thing — that it was “life-changing!” I’m just getting into it, but I’ll let you know if it changes my life!
The story is about a father and husband trying to deal with the tragedy of the abduction and apparent murder of his youngest daughter. Four years later he is “invited” back to the shack where his daughter’s bloody clothes were discovered. At the shack, he seeks the answer to his seemingly unanswerable question: Where was God and why did He let such a horribly brutal thing happen to his daughter, Missy? I’m just at the part where he has gone back to the shack and is dealing with his emotions and what he has discovered there.
I am planning to read James Patterson’s novel, Sunday at Tiffany’s next. Check out the blog by “Mr. Todd” about this book.
I am looking for titles to add to my classroom library. I am considering buying the Stephenie Meyers books ( Twilight, New Moon, etc). If you have any suggestions, please let me know!
I look forward to reading your blogs! Keep posting!
Before I close, I just have to say, Great news on the FCAT scores! A vast majority of you made huge learning gains in reading this year. In fact, the administration is crediting those gains with getting our school the “A” grade this year — a first for any of the high schools in the County! Way to go! I am so proud of all of you!
So keep reading, and keep up those skills you worked so hard to get!
